Professor Zhiping (Gordon) Xu, from the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN) at The University of Queensland (UQ), published his breakthrough nano-agro-biotechnology – gene-silencing spray in Nature Plants.

Gene-silencing sprays have been explored to boost crop yields, make crops more nutritious, and protect crops from droughts and trigger ripening. As a potential application, Professor Xu achieved long-lasting gene silencing inside plants using clay nanoparticles as the carrier, in collaboration with Professor Neena Mitter in the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation, UQ.

Professor Yin Xiao,  from Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Queensland University of Technology, published a review paper in Chemical Reviews (Impact factor  37.369).

This review was completed jointly with Dr Yulin Li and Professor Changsheng Liu from the Key Laboratory for Ultrafine Materials of Ministry of Education, East China University of Science and Technology , P.R. China.

This review, for the first time, termed “Materiobiology” for the description of the interactions between Materials  and Cells/Tissues.
