During 27-30 November 2016, QCASE organised and hosted the inaugural Australia-China Science, Technology, Commercialisation & Innovation Forum in Sofitel Brisbane Central, Brisbane, Australia.

The Forum included five themes: Energy and Resources, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Health and Medicine, Environment, Agriculture.

This Forum achieved great success and impact.

The Forum attracted strong support from Governments, Research Organisations, Universities and Companies from both China and Australia, including the Queensland Government Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation (DSITI), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), P.R. China, and the Consulate General of the P.R. China in Brisbane.

The Forum brought together nearly 300 delegates, and some of the most outstanding and influential leaders in science and technology in Australia and China. The delegates came from governments, science and technology agencies, academia, and industry including major companies such as Rio Tinto, Huawei and BGI.

The Forum was officially opened by the Hon Leeanne Enoch MP, Minister for Innovation, Science and the Digital Economy and Minister for Small Business, Queensland Government. QCASE president, Dr Hua Guo delivered a warm welcome to the participants. Mr Jamie Merrick, Director-General, Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation (DSITI) chaired the opening session.

Fourteen Chinese and Australian Academicians attended the Forum, and delivered a series of keynote speeches. The high profile speakers included

  • Professor Tieniu Tan, Vice President and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS)
  • Dr Yongchen Zhao, Consul-General, Consulate General of P.R. China in Brisbane
  • Professor Ian Frazer AC, joint inventor of the world’s first vaccine against cervical cancer
  • Professor Marteen Green AM, Director, the Australian Centre for Advanced Photovoltaics, The University of New South Wales
  • Mr Jianing Cai, Associate Counsel, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), P.R. China
  • Mr Kris Browne, Manager, International Science Collaboration, Department of Industry, Innovation and Science (DIIS), Australia.

The Forum led to signing of several collaborative agreements, including the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Huawei and James Cook University (Click here for further news).
