QCASE members celebrated 2017 Mid-Autumn Festival at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, South Bank Campus

On 8 October 2017, over 100 people including QCASE members, families, friends and invited guests had a wonderful gathering at Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, South Bank Campus to celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.

The celebration party was joined by special guests: Consul-General Dr Jie Xu and his wife Madam Ailan Cao of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane.  Dr Xu extended his sincere greetings and best wishes to everyone. He thanked QCASE and its members for their contribution to fostering and promoting exchange and cooperation in science, technology and education between Australia and China. As highlights, he specifically mentioned the successful 2016 Australia-China Science, Technology, Commercialisation & Innovation Forum, and the scientific exchange program between Northwest University for Nationalities (NWUN) and QCASE.

QCASE president, Dr Huo Guo thanked Consul-General Dr Jie Xu and his wife Madam Ailan Cao for their present at the QCASE’s celebration of the Chinese traditional festival. Dr Guo also thanked the support of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Brisbane to QCASE’s various activities in the past, especially for the support to the 2016 Australia-China Science, Technology, Commercialisation & Innovation Forum. In addition, Dr Guo thanked QCASE members for their selfless contribution to QCASE’s work to support QCASE members, increase QCASE profile in Queensland and China, and promote scientific and technological collaboration between Australia and China. He wished everyone have a great Mid-Autumn Festival, and enjoy the festive night.

After tasting the delicious dinner, one of the highlights of the party was the choir performances, which was conducted among the teams from UQ, QUT, Griffith and CSIRO. A traditional Chinese Tai Chi was performed by QCASE member A/Professor Longbin Huang of UQ. All the participants of the party enjoyed the performances.

In addition, QCASE held a workshop on various topic by three QCASE members before the party.  Ms Xiao-yi Sun of Princess Alexandra Hospital gave a presentation on “Computer and dry eyes”, Professor Xue Li of UQ presented a talk on “Big data analysis and its applications” and A/Professor Jing Sun shared her research outcomes on “Effective lifestyle intervention and self-management skills development on people with chronic diseases including hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes”. All the presentations were well received by the workshop attendees.
